I have not blogged anything from France since 2011, which feels a bit off given I have spent quite a bit of time there, particularly during our overland trip from Dubai to Portugal. Mont Saint-Michel was one of those stops that was always on the list, one of those places you have seen in photographs so many times that you wonder if it can possibly live up to expectations in person. It definitely does.
The tidal island rises out of the bay like something from a medieval fantasy, the abbey at the top dominating the skyline from every direction. I photographed it from the surrounding marshes at low tide, where the flat landscape and the shallow water channels make for a natural frame that puts the whole structure in context.
