There is nobody that does exposed concrete quite like the Japanese architects and Tadao Ando is known as the “king of concrete”. One of the buildings I really wanted to photograph on one of my last trips to Japan was the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, one of Tadao Ando’s well known structures in Japan.
It opened in 2002 after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and since 2019 it hosts a permanent exhibition about Tadao Ando’s life and work. If you’re ever in Kobe, do not miss it!
Also, if you are wondering what the green apple is about, many of Tadao Ando’s buildings incorporate an apple as a symbol of youth, representing a spirit that remains evergreen.
